Chase The Vision

“Chase the vision, not the money. The money will end up following you.” Tony Hsieh, Zappos Founder.

Money is the single biggest driver for someone to pick a job and end up hating it. I have had this experience personally. Hey, I was an investment banker after all haha…

The number of times I have heard a parent or child tell me that they have chosen a particular career path because “there seems to be a lot of money in it”. Well I hate to break the news to you but if there is a lot of money in that industry but if you suck at it, the money ain’t going to you… That’s the reality of it.

Money attracts people, more money means more people and more competition in the field… You need to be the best in that job or above average to be make a living out of it sustainably. So don’t chase a job simply because of the money potentially in it.

Chase the vision… the vision of you doing something great with that job, the vision of you enjoying yourself doing what you do, the vision of you feeling fulfilled with what you contribute to the world while making money with it.

Money comes with excellence and value created. There is money to be made with any service in this world. It is just a matter of whether people value what you do enough to ascribe value to it and make a payment for what you have to offer.

And there is a part of you that is the soul, the inner part of your self that is more than just the flesh… Your soul, spirit or whatever you want to call it… When the needs of the flesh are satisfied with enough money to buy food, drink, shelter and belongings, the inner self will start screaming for more: fulfilment, satisfaction, a sense of contribution…

When your job is solely for the money, you will feel bored and tired and unsatiated after some time, that is unless you are a money hungry person who only cares about materials and satisfying the flesh… then, Dee Dream is not for you and you can move on with your life as per before.

For the rest of you who do have the inner self that screams for more, you will need a vision that is greater than just money to keep you going for decades on end on a job/vocation/career… Chase that vision and you will find satisfaction in your lifelong work.

I wish you all the best in that quest!

Til Next Time, Dee Dream
